Popomomo Presents Thier F/W Line

Los Angeles based apparel company, Popomomo, is like a breath of fresh air. They have a very innovative, yet uncomplicated, view on eco-friendly clothing. They even unveiled their Fall/Winter line in an interesting way. Instead of having a runway show, they teamed up with local writer/director, Peter Shanel, to create a short dream-like film featuring their new goods. They had a film screening at the Mandrake in Culver City on March 19th, but you can watch it here:

Many of you, especially you photo junkies, know that the production of Polaroid film was sadly put to rest last year. Many campaigners and protesters fled to the scene trying to save their beloved cult film. SavePolaroid.com tells the history of Polaroid, allows users to share their Polaroids, demonstrates why Polaroid film should still be made, and instructs you on how to fight the good fight.

The Impossible Project has taken major action. They have acquired the equipment and signed a 10 year lease for the old Polaroid factory in the Netherlands. Their mission is "to develop a new product with new characteristics, consisting of new optimized components, produced with a streamlined modern setup. An innovative and fresh analog material, sold under a new brand name that perfectly will match the global re-positioning of Integral Films."

Interesting stuff! I'm also pretty infatuated with the photos of the Polaroid factory and equipment.

"Siren" Kate Moss 18K Sculpture by Marc Quinn

Marc Quinn's 18k solid gold sculpture of Kate Moss is the largest gold sculpture made since Ancient Egypt, weighing in at about the same as the subject, 110 lbs. Entitled "Siren", the piece cost about $3 million to make and is predicted to have a hefty price tag of about $20 million once sold after the "Statuephilia" show's end on January 5, 2009 at the British Museum in London.

Tom Sachs and Hello Kitty Meet at the Eiffel Tower

Traveling from Lever House in Manhattan last month, Tom Sach's large crying Sanrio characters, Miffy, Hello Kitty, and My Melody, have gone abroad to Paris, making a statement in front of the Eiffel Tower. The sculptures, which look to be constructed out of the artist favorite media, foamcore, but are actually painted bronze, will be on display through November 2, 2008. for more info and photos.
